Cautionary Announcement: The Department of Higher Education and Training warns private skills development providers against unscrupulous persons claiming to be consultants working with the department
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has noted with concern, a scam wherein certain persons claim to be consultants, agents or intermediaries working with the DHET. They dupe Private Skills Development Providers (SDPs) into paying huge amounts of money. These amounts sometimes run into hundreds of thousands of Rands, for the ‘service’ of completing and submitting applications for registration to the DHET.
DHET warns private SDPs against these alleged consultants, agents or intermediaries. SDPs and private education and training institutions do not have or work through these consultants, agents or intermediaries for their registration. DHET calls upon private SDPs and other categories of private education institutions, to lodge their applications for registration directly with the Department for the nominal fee of R500. Application forms are obtainable from the website www.dhet.gov.za. Should assistance be required in the completion and submission of applications, such assistance is provided free of charge by DHET officials.
The registration of private SDPs follows the publication of Joint Communique 1 of 2016, on The Registration of Private and Accreditation of Private Education and Training Providers Offering Qualifications and Part-Qualifications on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework.
